About Sherpatrapper.no

This project started in the summer of 2024, when figures kept popping up in the media about how many sherpa staircases exist in Norway. The numbers varied a lot, and anywhere from 200 to 400+ was reported. We weren't even close to being able to come up with more than a fraction of that, so work began on a more systematic list. This list eventually became sherpatrapper.no, and by the time of publishing in the summer of 2026 we had managed to find just over 100 hiking staircases in Norway, so there are likely still quite a few more out there.

At the same time, new hiking staircases are constantly being built around Norway, and it can be hard to keep track of where they all are. The goal is for this site to be a simple overview of all sherpa staircases and other hiking staircases in Norway, so you can easily discover even more of Norway's beautiful and well-prepared hiking destinations.

As far as we know, this is Norway's first proper overview of sherpa staircases and other hiking staircases in Norway.

The site is run as a hobby project. If you know of a staircase that isn't listed, or you see something that's wrong, you can use the "Suggest a staircase" button on the front page.
