Austgulstølsvegen

Austgulstølsvegen is an old trail in Gulen municipality in Vestland, originally said to have been built by Swedish railway navvies or Norwegian convicts sometime between 1800 and 1850. The trail leads to Austgulstølen. At its peak there were 12 active summer farms in the area, and the last one is said to have been in operation until 1952. The trail was in decent condition until the 1970s, after which it gradually fell into disrepair. In 2022 the trail was restored by sherpas from Nepal. 600 volunteer hours from local enthusiasts also went into getting the road back into shape. The project had a budget of around 2.7 million kroner.

There is limited information available about the staircase, and it is not drawn entirely accurately on the map. We're unsure how long it is or how many steps it has. Tips are appreciated.

The round trip is about 6 km and 600 meters of elevation gain.
