Buførevegen in Ullensvang is an old droving route over the mountain, partly paved with stone by sherpas.
Buførevegen in Ullensvang municipality is a historic route that was used to drive livestock from Reisete, over the mountain, and down to the summer pasture at Botnen. This is said to have gone on continuously from the 1200s until 1941/1958 (different sources cite different years for when the summer farming here ended). Part of the same route has also been used for pilgrim walking.
Buførevegen had seen little use, but in 2012 restoration of the trail began and continued until 2016. Going up Reiseteskaret, the trail is paved with stone for long stretches. Over the mountain it's marked with cairns, and heading down toward Botnen it is also paved with stone. Sherpas from Nepal did the stonework.
The staircase is not drawn entirely accurately on the map. Tips are appreciated.
The hike over the mountain is about 17 km
