Djevelporten is located just above Svolvær in Vågan municipality, and is a boulder wedged into a crack in the rock at about 395 m, near the summit of Fløya (590 m). The hike starts at the parking area on Blåtindveien and follows a marked trail all the way up. You might spot some climbers on Svolværgeita too.
Sherpas from Nepal built the stone staircase up toward Djevelporten and Fløya. Work began in 2019, and the roughly 610-meter-long staircase, with 245 meters of elevation gain, was completed in 2022. The staircase has around 1,240 steps. The uppermost section, right at Djevelporten itself, is steep, exposed, and may feel airy for some. In addition to the staircase, boardwalks have also been laid out over certain wet sections.
On popular days, the marked parking area can fill up quickly.
The hike to Djevelporten and Fløya is about 4.2 km and 580 meters of elevation gain
