A continuous stone staircase up to Falkenuten, 1096 m above sea level
Falkenuten and Falkeriset are located in Vinje municipality, near Rauland. Sherpas from Nepal built the stone staircase over the summers of 2011-2012. The finished staircase takes hikers 150 meters in elevation up to the summit of Falkenuten, which offers great views toward Hardangervidda, Gaustatoppen, and Møsvatn. Falkenuten is said to have gotten its name from falcon trapping, which was an important trade until the 1700s.
The trail starts at a parking area along Kråmvikvegen, about 11 kilometers from the center of Rauland.
The round trip to Falkenuten is about 2.7 km with 150 meters of elevation gain.
