Flatbrehytta

Flatbrehytta is a private, unstaffed tourist cabin. The cabin sits at 994 m above sea level at the southern end of Jostedalsbreen / Supphellebreen in Sogndal municipality, Vestland. The oldest cabin on the site was built in 1952-1954 and was called Steinhytta, with room for 3-4 people. After glacier courses started up, it quickly became clear that more space was needed, and a new, larger cabin was built. This was completed in 1965.

In 2013 the trail was improved with stone staircases built by sherpas from Nepal. In 2020 parts of the staircases were destroyed by a large snow avalanche and the trail was rerouted somewhat. It is difficult to find information about where the staircases are, how long they are, and what if anything remains. Tips are appreciated.

The round trip is about 8 km with 1000 meters of elevation gain.
