The staircase starts at the foot of Haglebunatten and takes you almost 200 meters in elevation up to Snøfonntjenn. In addition to smaller rest spots along the way, several seating areas and tables have been set up at Snøfonntjenn. If you want a longer hike, you can follow a clear path further up to Haglebunatten at 1278 m.
650 tons of stone from Granvin in Hardanger were used and lifted up the mountainside using 1375 helicopter lifts. The staircase was completed in the fall of 2023, and was officially opened on 6 July 2024.
Round trip to Snøfonntjenn: about 2.7 km with 220 meters of elevation gain
Round trip to Haglebunatten: about 6.3 km with 510 meters of elevation gain
