Havrå

Havråtunet is one of the few remaining well-preserved cluster farms and was granted heritage protection in 1998, located by the Sørfjord east of Bergen. In 2017 the hay meadows around the farm were also protected. The area has been inhabited since the Bronze Age, and pollen analyses show that farming has been carried out here for 3500 years. In the early 1900s, as many as around 60 people lived here.

The farm lies in steep terrain, and several stone staircases have been built over the years, along with stone slabs laid down, to make it easier to get around in the steep terrain and to minimize erosion.

In addition, the path between Vemmalvik and Havrå was restored by sherpas from Nepal in 2016. It is not a continuous staircase, but simple steps in the terrain, tall retaining walls, and bridges over rivers. Not certain exactly where this path runs. Tips are appreciated.
