348-step sherpa staircase by Gjelleråsen
Tell us about the hike and add photos — it only takes a minute.
Gjelleråsen is a popular hiking area in Lillestrøm municipality in Akershus. The staircase starts just barely inside Oslo municipality and is laid up Liabakkene, where a ski jump once stood in earlier times. Just near the top of the staircase lies the lean-to shelter Gubbero, with a good view over Stovner and the Groruddalen valley.
The staircase is built with 270 tons of stone and has two rest spots with benches. It was Lapka Tamang, Sonam Finjo Sherpa, Mekh Bahadur Magar, and Purna Bahadur Magar from Nepal who built the 348 steps in the summer of 2018.
Parking at Tokerud School outside school hours can be an alternative.
From Tokerud School to Gubbero, round trip: about 2 km and 100 meters of elevation gain
