Staircase facts
Romsdalseggen is one of Norway's most famous and popular mountain hikes, offering spectacular views the whole way from Vengedalen to Åndalsnes. With a detour to Blånebba at 1,320 meters above sea level, the hike is about 13.5 km and 1,160 meters of elevation gain.
The sherpa staircases themselves are on either side of the mountain: a trail improvement from Vengedalen upward (about 400 m, built in 2014), and one from Nesaksla down to Åndalsnes (Romsdalstrappa). The latter is the best known, featuring among other things the viewpoint Rampestreken, a very popular destination from Åndalsnes. In 2016, some staircases were also built and chains put up at Halsaskaret.
