Svandalsfossen lies along County Road 520, six kilometres south of Sauda, and is a well-known attraction along the Ryfylke National Tourist Route. In 2007 the road authority built an attraction point at the waterfall, including a car park and metal staircases. In 2018 stone staircases were also built by sherpas up to the waterfall, since the path was often muddy and slippery. There are also stairs leading down to the fjord.

There are said to be 147 steel steps, 85 concrete steps and 320 stone steps — 552 steps in total.
