Aksla (Ålesund)

The staircase up to Aksla is a popular viewpoint in Ålesund. Up here you'll also find the popular photo spot "Byrampen."

The first staircase here was made of natural stone, with construction starting in 1885 and finishing about 15 years later. By 2014 the staircase was in such poor condition that it was closed, and it was decided that a full renovation was the only viable solution. Concrete was eventually chosen as the material, though remnants of the old stones can still be seen in some sections.
