Vegatrappa was voted Nordland's finest mountain hike by NRK Nordland in 2023
Vegatrappa is a spectacular wooden staircase on the island of Vega in Nordland. The staircase consists of around 1,400+ wooden steps with handrails and seven rest stops. There's some discrepancy in the step count between sources, ranging from 1,400 to 2,000.
From the car park at Sundsvoll on the west coast of Vega, you start with a short path before reaching the first step. The view from the top spans the UNESCO World Heritage island of Vega and the North Atlantic, with a view towards the island of Søla to the west.
Round trip to the top of the staircase is about 2.4 km with 320 metres of elevation gain.
For a longer hike, you can continue on from the top of the staircase up towards Røsstinden (737 metres above sea level). Round trip about 9 km with 800 metres of elevation gain.
This staircase's position hasn't been registered yet.
